Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is a type of massage in which the therapist gives all or most of the massage treatment with his/her feet and uses overhead bars to hold onto for balance. This specialized massage was developed by Ruthie Hardee in the United States in 1999. Barefoot massage has been practiced for thousands of years by Buddhist monks and is a part of ancient history in many eastern cultures.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is a westernized version of barefoot massage and is very much like Swedish massage with flowing and relaxing strokes, yet the pressure is very heavy on the body like deep tissue massage. The technique is ideal for larger bodied clients that like a deep massage, however modifications can be made for different body types. Michelle is certified in Advanced Ashiatsu techniques through Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® workshops. She trained with certified instructors Mary Claire Fredette in Cincinnati, and Cindy Iwlew in the Chicago area.
